Big news in town
The big news is that Ikea is coming to Columbus. People are going crazy about it. Don’t get me wrong – it’s awesome, but people are passing out in the streets from excitement (actually, that’s not really happening). But it’s being plastered all over facebook and local sites.
Here’s a clip from the story: The Swedish furniture store chain in planning a location on the lot of the former Germain Amphitheater. Ground breaking is slated for spring of 2016 with the store opening its doors for customers in the summer of 2017. (note that I totally called the location before it was announced when talking to Lo about it last night – perfect spot, since they took away our only amphitheater years ago) (I don’t know who “they” are).
I’m a big fan of Ikea though – we’ve bought some great shit from there. There’s plenty more that I’ve wanted to buy over the years, but it’s over 2 hours away and we didn’t have a big vehicle to haul much stuff – but now that Lo has a van, we have plenty of space! I have a running shopping list in my Ikea website account. Of course, it’s not coming for 2+ years, and we’ll definitely have a new (old) house by then, so who knows what I’ll need at that point, and I’ll probably want to go to the Cincy one again before then anyway.
Some of my favorite things from there are our tv stand, the shelf above it, and the giant pic of Amsterdam above the couch (which was one of Jenson’s favorite things to stare at as a baby).
Oh, and our patio furniture – for which we never went back to pick up more chairs that were out of stock, so we have some of those pictured below, plus a few of the matching folding chairs and a bench.
I already have our bedroom furniture picked out for the future too (hemnes dressers and stands, with the Brimnes storage headboard). And there are so many ikea hacks I want to do that I should have a pinterest board devoted to just those. There are entire websites and pinboards devoted to these.
Some knock Ikea because it’s “cheap” needs assembly furniture, but lots of it is actually made from solid wood. Sure, the $10 Lack side table isn’t, but the hemnes line and other lines are. They also have pretty sweet linens and kitchen stuff. And I want this chair for some reason, really bad, even though we don’t need it.
So clearly, I’m pretty excited about it, so maybe I shouldn’t be making fun of the other people who are excited about it.
