Book It: I finally read some books
I took an unintentional break from reading for a bit, but I recently finished up two books that I really enjoyed – though they weren’t ones that I’d say I couldn’t put down. As usual, Kelley gave me the books to read once she was finished.
The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton was a book that Kelley picked up at Costco when we were in Siesta Key in September. We were browsing the books and a lady recommended it highly to her. She read it and said it was pretty good, and then passed it along to me. I honestly didn’t think it was going to be any good – and I have to admit that it took me a long time to read. Sometimes I’d put it down and not pick it up for weeks (as part of my unintentional break from reading). It’s the kind of book that you shouldn’t put down for long periods of time, because you’re likely to forget who the characters are and what situation they are in. It flips back in forth between several characters and several periods of time which basically boils down to two women trying to uncover their family’s past during two different periods of time. It’s a good read, but it is almost 600 pages and you do need to pay attention to keep things straight.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn is a book everyone has been raving about for months and while a lot of bloggers admitted they didn’t like the ending, luckily they didn’t ruin it with any hints. I have to agree – I felt like the ending was rushed and not a lot of time was put into it. It took me a little while to get into the story in the beginning, but after the twists started happening, it had my attention for sure. The story is about a wife who goes missing – I don’t want to say much more, and I’m sure you already figured out that much from the title alone. While I didn’t love the ending, it was a really good book. I’m excited for it to be made into a movie. I read somewhere that Reese Witherspoon is going to be Amy, and I think that is a perfect choice. Definitely read this one – if for no other reason that everyone else is doing it. Hey, it worked for Hunger Games, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Series, and 50 Shades and following the crowd didn’t disappoint me with those.
What have you been reading recently? I love recommendations!
