Dawes Arboretum and Dupler’s Pumpkinland with Gramma

Dawes Arboretum and Dupler’s Pumpkinland with Gramma

I’m still catching up on posts from October with all of the fun things we did.

One of the days while my mom was here after Jenson’s birthday, we headed to Dawes Arboretum to walk around before lunch.  They have this Story Trail for kids, with pages of a book displayed at numbered stops on wooden posts along a trail.  Jenson loses interest in the book at times because the stops are pretty far apart, but he loves walking around regardless.

After we walked the Story Trail, we headed to the little “play area”.  It’s really just simple pieces of wood to crawl on and such, but he has a lot of fun with it. He enjoyed walking across the little seesaw a few times, and then stacked a bunch of pieces of wood that were laying around all across it.

Then Gramma started playing on it with him and he had a blast.  He would say “up and down”, “up and down”.

He always has just looked through this hollowed out log, but suddenly started crawling through it.  I was a little concerned that he was going to get stuck/scared partway through and we would have trouble getting him out, but luckily he only went a few steps inside and then decided he didn’t like it.

The next day we went into Granville and checked out the downtown area for a bit.  Jenson napped most of the time we were walking around, but woke for lunch at this little coffee shop that had gluten-free sandwiches and such.  On the way home, we stopped at a little pumpkin farm called Dupler’s Pumpkin Land that was just a few miles from our house.  He had SO much fun there.

He loved feeding the goats pieces of hay

I used my pregnancy as an excuse to make mom go down the big slide with him

He was having so much fun with the goats, bunnies, and plastic playskool toys that it was almost impossible to get him to go pick out pumpkins.  Mom was over there looking at pumpkins and he just kept yelling “Gramma!” trying to get her to come back to play.  Eventually we got him interested in the pumpkins.

When we were finished picking out pumpkins, he was determined he was going to stay.  He plopped himself on the steps and refused to leave until I picked him up and put him in the car.

I promised him we’d come back with Daddy soon, and that seemed to appease him (we went back that weekend).

After we got home, it was time for me to get ready to go to see Paul McCartney with Lo for our late anniversary date.  Jenson didn’t care that we were even leaving – he was like – go ahead…I have Gramma.  It’s the same when we are leaving him with Lo’s parents.  We ate at Forno in the Short North before the concert and it was amazing…they had tons of gluten-free options.  We split the garlic parmesan fries and the Ahi Tacos to start (which they cooked more thoroughly than rare for us since I’m pregnant), and then split the gluten-free woodfired breakfast pizza (because it was so unique).  So good.  The concert was fantastic – he played for almost 3 hours with several encores.  He sounded great and was really interactive with the crowd.  I’m really glad Lo splurged for the tickets for us to go before he stops touring for good.  I felt slightly bad that we went to the concert while my mom was at home with Jenson – Paul was her favorite Beatle, and she actually grew up in that era.  She would have loved the show.  I know that she loved spending the time with Jenson too though, and we were grateful she was able to help us out.
