Jenson is 2!
Jenson turned 2, and we had a great day. We played outside in the morning before lunch. He took an hour to fall asleep, but eventually I rocked and sung him to sleep…I know those days are fleeting. He woke up horribly from his nap after an hour – so upset, but he calmed and wanted to watch “brown bears” (a random animal show that I found on Netflix- he watched “white bears” yesterday). He had another meltdown as we were trying to leave to go meet Lo at a local pumpkin farm to play, but he got over it with the promise that he’d “see kids?”. Birthdays are hard!
We met Lo about 20 minutes away at Devine Farms. They have an outdoor play area that is great for little kids for just $3 on the weekdays. They also have a corn maze, fun house, barrel train rides, and a bunch of other activities on the weekends that we’ll have to go back for, but we only had an hour before they closed, so the play area was perfect. He actually could have played there for a few hours and been happy. The play area had a bunch of Little Tykes-type toys for him to play on, hay bales, old tractors, tunnels, play kitchens, and an old bus painted like an ear of corn. There were also animal statues that he played on, cut-outs for pictures, and lots of pumpkins to pick from. It was so much fun. We’ll definitely be going back.
We headed home and after dinner and a bath, he opened a couple of presents. The motorcycle was a hit, but the firetruck was “too loud” for him and he wanted it back in the box. I think he was just tired, and he’ll love it soon enough. We didn’t have cake – we’re having a little party for him on Saturday, so it seemed silly to make cake for both days, since we’d only give him a little bit anyway. He doesn’t really get birthdays yet anyway. He told us happy birthday when we told him happy birthday. We talked about his birthday a few times through the day, and by the end of the day when we asked him whose birthday it was, he finally said “Jenson’s!”. But then he said “Gannon’s!” (his cousin…whose birthday is actually Friday). So maybe he doesn’t get it.
But anyway, he’s two…and he’s awesome. I’m sure this year will be full of 2 year old challenges (not to mention adding a baby to the mix), but we love how sweet he is, and watching him grow and learn. I’m so happy that I get to be home with him and watch all of these changes, and that he’s so obsessed with his dad that when he gets home, Lo gets plenty of time with him too.
