Random thoughts: music, weather, sleep (or lack of)
Just some random thoughts I jotted down today (okay, I typed them…I can’t read my own writing when I “jot”).
I pulled up Pandora and the first song on my shuffle was one that I hadn’t heard before – I Wanna Be Yours by Arctic Monkeys. As I was listening to it, I thought-did he really just say “I wanna be your vacuum cleaner”? (Also, I never spell vacuum right the first time – including when I just typed this sentence…double uu??). Yes he did say that, along with some other weird chore-related things…but regardless…after it was over, I thought – hey, I bet this is on the 50 Shades of Gray soundtrack. I googled it and it’s not, but it seems like it would have been a good fit…not because of the words – just the tone of it.
It took me 1 hour, 25 minutes to get to work today – 19 miles-ish. The roads were bad, but drivers are the problem. People were driving too slow early in the commute, and as we approached downtown – when the roads got really bad – people were driving crazy! Probably because they were already 30 minutes late to work, but a ton of cars, trucks and buses were playing leapfrog – jumping out of the lane they needed to be in, to try to pass the line of cars in the exit-only lane, just to jump back in the lane they came from. I was SO mad! There was one specific car that was letting everyone in…I’m talking like 15+ cars within a ½ mile. This ½ mile took 20 minutes because we were constantly stopping to let people in (well, he was – I certainly wasn’t letting them in). I could see the cars get out of our lane, just to pass 10 cars and get back in line. A-holes. They probably got where they were going 1-2 minutes earlier than if the line of cars didn’t have to keep stopping because of that. Busses and trucks are the worst…they are just like…”okay – I’m coming in. You won’t hit me, because you might die.” Almost all of the rush hour traffic issues on 270 are directly caused by semis jumping lanes – and then holding a spot for another truck to switch lanes like they so often do. I know we rely on trucks to transport pretty much everything, but I wish there was a semi-only lane somehow. They should have to drive behind each other the whole time unless they are exiting.
When my office was talking about getting dual monitors, I thought it was a huge waste of money. Now I think…hmm….a third monitor would sure be nice.
Jenson slept until almost 6 am this morning…much nicer than 515 or 430. It’d be great for that to keep inching later, but I doubt it. Lo’s parents are keeping him overnight a few days next week….sorry guys. Kids are always on better behavior for grandparents, right? Even he’s too tired when he wakes that early – he fell asleep sitting up just a couple of hours after he woke up a couple of days ago.
Guess who hasn’t nursed in over a week?! Wait – don’t answer…if you were to guess anyone other than Jenson, that’d be weird. Lo has been handling bedtime and it’s been going well. In the next week or two, I’ll start to try to get him to sleep and hope that he has forgotten about the nursing option. He still reaches for me when he’s ready to go to bed, but he only fusses for a minute. He’s so into Lo right now, so he gets over it really quickly.
I’m finally remembering to wear my fitbit regularly – its fun now that we’ve connected to some friends/family and can compare stats.. I usually get between 8k-12k steps per day – not bad for having a total desk job. Lo is always beating me, and our brother-in-law is killing us. His job required near-constant walking, so not many people could beat him. I get most of my steps in the evening. I get home before 6 pm and almost never sit down until at least 1030 pm.
I had a dental checkup today. I love going to the dentist (I’m not joking). No issues today…more on dental health to come…
