Sunday Social: Food
It’s Sunday Social day where Ashley and Neely post questions each week for people to answer on their blogs and a linkup. This week’s questions are all about tv.
1. If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? Most people would expect me to say cheese or blueberries, but since I haven’t been allowed to have raw tuna for months, I’d say Tuna Poke, preferably from/in Hawaii. Here’s a pic from our poke feast in Hawaii on our last night.
2. What’s your guilty pleasure/comfort food? Sweets – of any sort…ice cream, brownies, cookies, candy. Love them all.
3. What’s the weirdest/craziest thing you’ve ever eaten? Dog food, cat food, and eggshells. All of those things were when I was little and was coerced by my sisters in some way. It was always just one piece or so with the dog food. I guess I called eggshells “crunchies”, but I don’t think that was a long lived thing either. I’m sure my mom found out and they got in trouble. As an adult, I vaguely remember tasting fried alligator in Florida when we were down there for Bike Week years ago. I’ve also had baby octopus. Nothing crazy.
4. What foods do you avoid at all costs? Anything with gluten or wheat (which contains gluten). Gluten = itching, nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea for me. Don’t know whether I have a true allergy, but I definitely have a strong intolerance. I can’t say there’s much else I completely avoid…I don’t like black olives and will try to pick them off of anything, but I wouldn’t not eat it if I couldn’t get them all off.
5. What meal reminds you of your childhood? Homemade pizza. Once a weekend, we’d make homemade pizza. We’d make it the size of a cookie sheet since there were so many of us. As I got older (and there were less of us at home regularly), we’d get delivery/pickup or make frozen pizza, but I always think of those sheet cake-sized pizza. I also think of pot roast type meals. We didn’t have that more than once a month or something, but there’s something about the cool air in late fall that makes me think of coming home from school (sunny outside, but cool) and smelling pot roast (or beef stew) in the crockpot. It wasn’t even a meal that I loved, but I still think of it when the weather is right.
6. Share one of your favorite recipes and the story behind it. Chipotle Corn Salad is one of my favorite things to make for parties and picnics. It easy, heathly, and makes a lot (which is good because it goes fast!). I don’t know if I have a story behind it…I’m not sure when I first made it or where I got the recipe, but I think it was one of the first recipes I made with chipotle peppers and subsequently became addicted to them. Here’s the recipe.
It sure sounds like celiac. My friend has it and if she gets even the smallest amount of it she is miserable for days. 🙁
I love sweets!

I just never really claim “celiac” because people immediately are like – oh did you get tested? I didn’t because when I added gluten back in my diet in order to get tested, I got too sick to continue, so I don’t technically have a diagnosis. But the symptoms are all the same….
