Sunday Social: Holidays
It’s Sunday Social day where Ashley and Neely post questions each week for people to answer on their blogs and a linkup. This week’s questions are about the holidays.
1. What is your favorite Holiday Movies/TV Specials?
Elf, It’s a Wonderful Life, the old school Christmas cartoons. Jenson and I watched Frosty on last Friday night.
2. Do you do any volunteering during the holidays if so what? If not what would you do?
I have, but no volunteering this year – I just bought a couple of items off of a local animal rescue wish list for a particular dog that we almost adopted before we adopted Boof (he wasn’t going to be a good fit since we were planning to start a family). We served a meal to the less fortunate 2 years ago and I’ve donated toys and such various years. I’ve also collected gloves, hats, and scarves to donate to a charity a couple of years in the recent past. I definitely want our kids to learn to give back in some way for the holidays. Once they are old enough to receive allowance, I think it would be great to make them save $1/week the whole year so that they’d end up with $50 to do something of their choice.
3. What is your favorite toy received as a child for the holidays?
The Barbie Dream House. It was used, but we didn’t care. My sister Summer had gone downstairs to use the bathroom really early in the morning on Christmas day (chances are she was just excited for Christmas and just wanted to check things out) and came up and told me that there was a huge Barbie house. I don’t even remember exactly what she said because I’m a sleepy person and not even Christmas could make me wake up easily. We were never allowed to go downstairs until a reasonable hour (6 or 7 probably), and we were only allowed to get into our stockings (which were huge and there were always little gifts in there to open) until my parents got up at 8 or 9. They were always up half the night wrapping presents and/or finishing some last minute home project, so they didn’t want to get up early. But the Barbie House wasn’t wrapped, so we got to see it right away. We played with this thing for years!
4. What was your must have item in high school for the holidays?
I don’t remember…probably clothes and cd’s. We weren’t spoiled and knew not to ask for crazy gifts, so we usually got a lot of what we wanted. My mom usually even let us pick out clothes so she knew we would like them.
5. What do you do on Christmas Eve?
We don’t have a tradition. Every year has been different. Sometimes we stayed at Lo’s or my parents, sometimes we were home. Now that we have a family, I’m sure we will almost always be in Columbus so we can be here on Christmas morning, and hopefully we come up with some sort of tradition. Last year we were at home after work, and I think we just made some random dinner and our friend who was by himself because of work came over.
we always wanted the barbie dream house, it never happened though 🙁 now my girls are asking me for the same thing haha
