Sunday Social: Kid Stuff
It’s Sunday Social day where Ashley and Neely post questions each week for people to answer on their blogs and a linkup. This week’s questions are random ones about childhood.
1. What do you miss most about being a kid?
Being completely carefree.
2. Dd you have a nickname growing up? What was it?
Not really anything I can think of. I’m kind of grateful for that because nicknames can be cruel! I often got called the wrong name by my mom, teachers, and volleyball/basketball coach – any of my 5 older sisters’ names. My coach usually resorted to calling us by our last name so she didn’t have to think about it.
3. What was your favorite thing to do at recess?
Play football or basketball. I was athletic, so I was usually playing football with the boys, or basketball with girls, depending on the season. With basketball it would be “winner stays” when we played two on two or something, so I’d get to play the whole time.
4. What did you want to be when you grew up?
I swear we answered this two weeks ago. Owner of an ice cream store, brain surgeon, FBI agent (a la Clarice in Silence of the Lambs – I still want to be that), a cowboy, and a truck driver.
5. Did you participate in any school activities?
I was in about every school activity except band and cheerleading at one point or another. Volleyball, basketball, track, student council, prom committee, key club (that is not like key parties, but I don’t remember what it was), Leo club (it was a junior version of Lions club), one of the school plays (I was a bottle dancer in Fiddler on the Roof), I don’t remember what else there was. But when they had photo day for all of the groups, I just stayed in the gym because I was going to be in most of the pics.
I was a cheerleader in 6th grade though, because my parents wouldn’t let me play football. Clearly, I was good.
6. What is the funniest thing you did as a kid that your parents still remind you about?
I think the funniest thing is when I (apparently) colored in my face with black marker on the day before Easter. I’m not sure my mom thought it was funny. I was pretty young so I don’t remember – which actually means that one of my sisters could have done it to me and said I did it. It seems that most of the funny things were actually “tricks” that my sisters did – like telling me to eat eggshells and calling them “crunchies”.
Of course, I willingly ate sand on my own accord, so I don’t know if they can be blamed for the eggshells thing.
