Sunday Social: Music Favorites

It’s Sunday Social day where Ashley and Neely post questions each week for people to answer on their blogs and a linkup.  This week’s questions are all about music.

1. What is your all-time favorite song?  All-time?  That’s impossible!  Head Full of Doubt/Road full of Promises – Avett Brothers.  But I don’t even know if I can say that’s my absolute #1 – but it speaks to me.  It’s definitely in the top 10.

2. Who is your favorite singer/band?  Again…favorite?!  I could go in several directions with this.  At different points in my life I would have said Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Damien Rice, or Elton John.  I guess I have to go with The Beatles though.

3. What song reminds you of your childhood?  Broken Wings by Mister Mister always makes me thing of rollerskating for hours in our basement.  Also, various country songs (from riding the bus), 80’s soft rock (playing on the kitchen radio), and oldies (riding in the car with my parents).  Oh- and Stay the Night (apparently by Benjamin Orr) from the 80’s.  My mom sang the wrong lyrics for years and we still laugh about it.  It goes “Stay the Night, don’t say you don’t know….stay the night, it’s alright”.  She would sing “Steve and Eddie, don’t say you don’t know….Steve and Eddie, it’s alright”.  So apparently she was okay with guys coming out of the closet way back when.

4. What songs put you in a good mood?  It was a Good Day – Ice Cube.  If I was an MMA fighter, that’s what I’d walk out to.  And Shoop – Salt ‘n Pepa.  And Ditty by Paperboy.  Apparently rap makes me happy?  And obviously I likes MC Hammer back in the day too.

5. What is your music to rock out to in your car?  I just put on my favorites playlist from my iphone, so it could be a huge variety including the artists mentioned above, Black Keys, Jack White and his various bands, Radiohead, Dixie Chicks, Jay-Z, Avett Brothers, Counting Crows, Kings of Leon, Lumineers, Michael Jackson, Mumford and Sons, 80’s bands, etc.  I like to mix it all up.

6. What is the most embarrassing album or song you own? I don’t know that I’m embarrassed by any of my music.  I do have in my possession a New Kids on the Block tape.  I liked them in 5th grade or something like that so I had the tape and we found it at my mom’s house a couple of years ago.  I brought it home with me to give to my friend who claims she still loves New Kids…but I just forgot to give it to her.  So I still technically have it.
