Weather Over-prediction again
It’s getting really annoying how often the snow storms are incredibly over-predicted. We’ll be told we are getting 7-10 inches, and then get 2. Lo says it’s so the weather stations and news will get good ratings – people go crazy about that stuff. I can’t even imagine that you need a college degree to be a meteorologist, because it really seems like they are just taking guesses. I swear they are incorrect about rain and snow in Ohio 60% of the time. Or they’ll be like – there’s a thirty percent chance of rain…and it’s already pouring. Facebook becomes annoying too…people speculating about how much snow they’ll get, weather school will be cancelled, complaining that school is cancelled – and others complaining that it isn’t. When people ask how the roads on are Facebook, I always want to say “If you have to ask, you shouldn’t drive in it”. Basically, if you HAVE to go somewhere, you have to go no matter what. If you’re trying to decide if you want to go somewhere and are worried about the roads, don’t do it because you’ll probably suck at it.
What I’m mad about this weekend is that the tournament that I was nervous but mostly excited about playing in on Sunday was cancelled on Saturday purely on the forecast (which is rarely right…see above). I’ve never had a tournament cancelled in 15 years of playing club volleyball (yikes, I’m old). So even though there wasn’t any snow going on at that time, it was still cancelled. Now realize that it’s entirely possible to cancel the tournament in the morning if the snow actually arrives. It would have to be early to allow for those who are traveling, but the director could check at 6 am and send a text to the captains at that point. So instead it was cancelled and Columbus got about 2 inches of snow (roads were totally driveable), and Dayton, where the tournament would have been, got ZERO inches of snow. Durr.
Oh well. I got to spend more time with Jenson that I didn’t think I would. I got to hang out with my in-laws a bit. I got lots of stuff done around the house. I won’t be so sore that I’ll have trouble standing up or raising my arms from my side tomorrow. But I really did want to play!
We did take Jenson out in the snow on Saturday (before the big snow storm!) because he’s never really been in it. It was so cold a few of the times we had a lot of snow (like 2 degrees) and he was sick other times, so it was finally a good time to go out for 15 minutes. He was cautious about it, but had fun in the sled and licking a snowball (clean snow, I swear…probably).
