I miss you summer season.
This summer FLEW by for me. I feel like we just moved into our house, but it’s actually been over 5 months ago. When I think about it, we’ve done a lot this summer and have kept very busy (often too busy), but it still seems like it’s gone so fast. I love fall so much, so I have a little left of my favorite season before the dreaded winter, but I never want to rush through nice summer weather.
People keep asking us whether we regret moving away from downtown or miss living there. We’ll always miss living there, but it’s not where we belonged anymore. We love having a bigger house (even if that means we can’t always find each other), we love having a garage and yard (even with all of the work that comes with it), and we really do like the area in which we live. I just wish we could reduce our commute that has increased by an additional 20 minutes since school started.
Before I post pictures of our Siesta Key vacation that marked the end of summer for us (literally – when I left it was regularly 85 degrees…when I returned, it was regularly 65 degrees), I wanted to look back over some of the things that we did this summer, since it’s so easy to forget how much fun we had amongst all of the work with the house. We had a ton going on this summer, so these pictures don’t capture everything, but I didn’t take pictures on all of the occasions I wished I would have. These are photos and events that I meant to post about at some point or another and never got around to.
To start the Summer off – which is May-ish to me because it was already 90 degrees, we bought a house. And it has a Pink Horse Room in it. Honestly the house was great and we didn’t have very much work and hardly any painting to do. Granted, this room probably falls under “needs painted” but it’s hilarious and it’s the 4th bedroom, so we aren’t concerned about it. It currently houses one of Lo’s closets and his dressers, so this is what he gets dressed to each day. Jealous?!
We went to a Columbus Clippers game while we still had an apartment downtown and could walk there. We went to a second one last month, but that’s something that we’ll definitely miss walking too (Blue Jackets games too!)
We went ziplining for Lo’s birthday. It was a lot of fun and he was only nervous for the first part of it. Our friends had done it before so that made it better.
We started Sunday Movie Night with our friends. We wanted a tradition and we didn’t have much to do on Sunday’s, so it’s been a great way to end the weekend. We take turns picking the movie and making dinner. The movie below was my first pick – do you know what it is?
We spent a lot of time here. We actually didn’t do as much swimming as we did just sitting around and hanging out. Now it’s closed and it’s sad.
We bought a Groupon to see Counting Crows, Filigar, and Gold Old War and it was a great show! I ended up really liking Good Old War! We met our friends Ashlee and Sean at the show. They are getting married this month and it’s going to be awesome!
We had BBQ’d with friends from near and far.

We did some landscaping, including putting in this hibiscus bush that Kelley bought for us. It was beautiful all summer and is just now finishing up the blooms!
We became an aunt and uncle again! I had 7 nieces and nephews before I met Loren and they (and he) definitely think of him as their uncle even though most of then were a little older by the time we were together. His sister had a baby in July, so this is the first time he is an uncle to a baby from the start – which I’m sure feels a little differently. I still remember what it felt like to be an aunt for the first time. It’s a whole new world. He loves babies (and they love him) so he’s always excited to see Sadie.
Lo is a huge Crew fan and I’m a fair-weather fan, so if it’s nice, I like joining him for the games.
But I’m not a fair weather fan of Frankie!
We took a trip to visit my family and my niece in 7th grade is now suddenly taller than me! We got to spend a lot of time with the rest of my family, including my sister who lives in Vegas and her new man. We were short a sister for the weekend though, as one of them and her family couldn’t make it in from Michigan. It’s a pretty rare thing to get all 6 sisters in town at the same time…
He had a few gatherings with friends at our new place.
We went to see Mumford and Sons, which was AWESOME! I was a little mad that they change the show to a parking lot show versus LC, which is a smaller outdoor venue, AFTER we purchased the tickets because the venue or whoever got greedy and wanted to sell more tickets. We were so far back from the stage but we had a great time with friends.
We participated in Kayak for the Cure, which was a fantastic event. Lo doesn’t love river kayaking, but he did it anyway.
And I know I’m forgetting lots of other fun summer stuff.
