Workout Wednesday: What Workouts?

Last week, I included my Wednesday workout because it was the final day of the Halloween Challenge workout and I wasn’t able to post my workouts until Thursday anyway.  This is a pretty crazy week because I have very little to report, which is pretty unusual for me. Part of that is because I wanted to take a little extra recovery after those 30 straight days (some days with multiple workouts), part was because I was busy, and part was because my knee (from that stupid dive in volleyball) is finally forced me to go to the doctor.  The pain isn’t bad, but it’s consistent and bad enough that I have to struggle to not limp sometimes when I first stand up.  He said I bruised the cartiledge behind the knee cap with and it’s swollen and irritated which has cause my kneecap to not sit in the groove, so it’s not tracking correctly.  Or at least that’s what I got out of his big words and descriptions and it’s pretty much what I expected.  There’s no other damage and he even said I could continue to do anything that doesn’t cause too much pain.  I have to go to a PT evaluation on Monday and they’ll give me exercises to strengthen some muscles that will help pull the kneecap back into the groove.  For the last three years, I’ve had to go to physcial therapy in November (elbow, back/hip, knee), so I guess November is happy physical therapy month for me.  He doesn’t think I’ll need to go more than once or twice because they just need to give me exercises to do on my own, so at least it won’t be expensive or time-consuming.

I mentioned last week that we’d been checking out rescued dogs and we brought home the first one we visited with on Saturday!  She’s completely and udderly adorable and SO sweet.  She’s been really good so far and we’re doing everything we can to make her comfortable in our home.  Unfortunately she’s not enjoying being crated during the day while we are at work, but she doesn’t show any negative behavior once we let her out (she just whines when we put her in there and it’s heart-breaking!). I suspect she falls asleep pretty quickly after we leave, but man, it’s hard!  Kelley generously went over and walked her and let her play during the day the last two days, which was so sweet, but she’ll need to get used to being there by herself anyway.  I ordered a gate last night so next week we can test putting her in a gated room while we’re going and see how she does with that.  I really would like to get to the point where we can leave her free in the house (or at least on the first floor) while we’re gone during the day, but since our house is so new to her and we aren’t sure of all of her behaviors, we have to take it slowly.  She was crate-trained and house-broken when we got her, so it isn’t new to her and she’s doing so well with it.  I just don’t want her to feel like she’s being punished or trapped all of the time.

We are taking her for walks twice a day (three times when Kelley has stopped over), so I’ve been getting in at least one walk a day for exercise – I guess that counts a little, but I’m not going to list that each day.   More on her later, but here’s a picture of Lo and Boof while we were visiting our friends when she got to meet her doggie friends.  Look at that face!!!

Thursday, November 1

  • Noon – Nothing
  • Capital Club Vinyasa Yoga:  I really need to get back into yoga, but it just hasn’t been happening.  This was a good class to come back to because she didn’t push us too hard.  I feel bad that I’ve regressed as far as I have, because I was making huge progress in her class and now I feel like a lump.

Friday, November 2

  • Nothing:  We had dental appointments and after that we tried out a newish mexican restaurant and then went dog-stuff shopping.

Saturday, November 3

  • Nothing:  We brought Boof home and spent the day getting to know her.

Sunday, November 4

  • Nothing – See a pattern?  Boof got lots of exercise because she met Mason and Nash and they played like CRAZY.

Monday, November 5

  • Noon – P90X Ab Ripper and 25 minutes elliptical (wow, a real workout!)

Tuesday, November 6

  • Noon – Left early for Dr. Appt.
  • 7:15 p.m. – Dublin Reverse Co-ed Volleyball:  I always get a workout from this league since it’s women-hit.  I was a little late because I had to get my bi-annual ring inspection at Jared and OF COURSE they found a loose diamond and had to keep them.  I’ve had the ring for three years and this is the third “repair” needed.  I f-ing hate that place.  It took the lady forever to fill out the paperwork so instead of 5 minutes, it was 20 minutes.  At least I’ll be able to pick them up tonight.  Anyway with the league, my knee hurt quite a bit when I dove sometimes but otherwise it was fine.  I didn’t block as much as I did last week, but it wasn’t too bad.

Sadly, I forsee some of the same non-workouts for next week, but this time not as much by choice.  Do you have a dog?  What kind?  Any advice for new dog owners?
